The Artist

My name is Ivan Quiñones II, but most people know me as El Piqasso...
First and foremost, I believe my ability to create is a God-given gift. I'm simply the vessel. Every canvas is another opportunity to honor that gift by creating something that makes people stop, think, and feel.
Born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, I'm a self-taught mixed-media artist who doesn't create art just to fill empty walls—I create conversations. Every piece starts with a question, a frustration, an observation, or a moment that refuses to leave me alone until it finds its way onto canvas.
Most of my work lives somewhere between charcoal and acrylic, realism and symbolism. At first glance, you may see a portrait or a familiar image. Look a little longer, and you'll discover layers of meaning, hidden details, and visual metaphors that invite you to see the world differently. I believe the best artwork doesn't tell you what to think—it gives you something to think about.
Over the years, I've been blessed to have my work featured in publications including Metro Times and Rolling Out Magazine, exhibited in galleries, and collected by supporters across the United States and internationally. I've owned and operated my own art gallery, produced immersive art experiences, and even brought artwork to the runway, proving that creativity doesn't have to stay inside a frame.
My inspiration comes from everywhere—faith, culture, history, politics, travel, everyday conversations, and the overlooked moments most people walk right past. Some pieces are loud. Others whisper. But every one of them has something to say.
Whether I'm creating a symbolic mixed-media work, a deeply personal portrait, or a large-scale commission, my mission never changes: create artwork that outlives the moment it was made.
When you collect a piece from me, you're not just buying artwork. You're investing in a story, a conversation, and a perspective. Every original carries a part of my journey, and from that moment on, it becomes part of yours.
So whether this is your first time here or you've been following the journey for years, welcome.
